CAM™ Mental Health Without Borders™ Approach
Bridging The Gap To Care
For decades, mental health issues have been steadily increasing across the globe, affecting individuals, families, and communities alike. This growing crisis is compounded by a widening gap in access to trained professionals who are equipped to address the deep unrest and distress that many of us feel in our lives and communities.
As leaders, organizers, advocates, and professionals, it is critical that we understand the importance of mental health not only as an individual concern but as a collective issue that impacts the very fabric of our society.
Learning about mental health is essential for creating inclusive, healing-informed environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. In a world where social justice and equity are at the forefront of necessary change, it is our responsibility to ensure that mental health support is accessible to all, particularly to those who have historically been marginalized or underserved.
By fostering an understanding of mental health and promoting accessible, culturally competent care, we can begin to address the complex effects of trauma and stress that disproportionately affect vulnerable communities. This is more than a matter of providing care—it's about shifting systems, dismantling barriers, and creating a world where healing is possible for everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances.
It is time for leaders and decision makers in our communities to invest in promoting mental health education, not only to reduce stigma but to ensure that healing, wellness, and justice are accessible to all. Through informed leadership and collective action, we can bridge the gap in mental health care and build communities that support long-term resilience and empowerment for generations to come.
Moblizing Mental Health Care
From the classroom or office to the community, our CAM™ Mental Health Without Borders™ approach is designed to change the service delivery of mental health care. Through bringing Community Activated Medicine™ Provider Sites™ (CAMPsites™) into community spaces we offer immediate supportive mental health and wellness services for relatives who are Indigenous & underserved victims of violence and Historical Traumas.
Through this dynamic model, we are able to deliver critical mental health services such as grief support, coping strategies, wellness screenings, substance use resources, and social justice-informed advocacy. The CAMPsites™ also host healing circles, art and counseling therapy, occupational therapy services, and other support activities, ensuring a comprehensive and community-driven approach to mental health care.
New Mobile CAMPsite™ App
We are excited to announce the development of a new mobile app designed to connect our network of helpers and healers with the community, in response to growing mental health needs. In collaboration with first-year MSOE Honors students, our team has created a platform that enables us to organize events, share details, and engage with community members in real time.
The app allows users to easily view upcoming events, sign up, and connect with others, helping to bridge the gap between mental health providers and those seeking support. With the potential for expansion, the app aims to reach other communities and campuses where mental health awareness and services are urgently needed.
This project highlights the power of innovation and collaboration, showcasing how young professionals can play a key role in driving positive change and improving accessibility to mental health care. We are proud of the progress made and excited about the impact it will have on the communities we serve.
Mobilizing Mental Health Care
Our CAM™ Mental Health Without Borders™ approach is transforming how mental health care is delivered, bridging the gap between the classroom or office and the community. By bringing Community Activated Medicine™ Provider Sites™ (CAMPsites™) into local spaces, we provide immediate, supportive mental health and wellness services for Indigenous and underserved individuals impacted by violence and historical trauma.
At the heart of our work is a commitment to creating a value-based, free, and accessible mental health practice that is culturally responsive and community-driven. Through our CAMPsites™, we integrate mental health interns and professionals to deliver a wide range of services, including coping strategies, wellness screenings, grief support, and resources for substance use and recovery. We also offer healing circles, art and counseling therapy, occupational therapy services, victim advocacy, and social justice-informed activities.
This innovative model not only meets immediate mental health needs but fosters long-term healing and resilience within communities, creating a space where healing is accessible, inclusive, and empowered by cultural understanding. We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, creating meaningful change and offering hope to those who need it most.
Response in Action
CAMPsites™ (Community Activated Medicine™ Provider Sites) represent an innovative approach to delivering mental health services directly within communities, particularly those that are underserved or affected by historical trauma. This model mobilizes a network of mental health professionals, interns, and community leaders to provide accessible, culturally responsive care in real-time, creating a bridge between service providers and those in need. By establishing CAMPsites™ in local spaces, we mentor and empower both emerging professionals, seasoned providers, and community members to engage in healing practices that address mental health challenges, promote wellness, and foster resilience.
By mobilizing this network, we not only address immediate mental health needs but also build sustainable, long-term support systems that encourage community empowerment, healing, and mental wellness.
CAMPsites™ represent a paradigm shift in how mental health services are conceptualized and delivered—emphasizing accessibility, cultural competence, and the collective strength of communities. This model serves as a powerful example of how mentoring and mobilizing local resources can transform mental health care and promote a culture of healing within underserved populations.
